Announcement – Operations Directorate

Dear colleagues,

The Jasper Recovery Coordination Centre, led by Parks Canada and the Municipality of Jasper, was established in August 2024 to support our shared priorities and implementation efforts in the recovery and rebuilding process.  This work requires sustained effort by a strong and committed team, with dedicated executive leadership.

In this regard, I am pleased to announce that Kendra Van Dyk has accepted an appointment to a newly created role of Director, Jasper Wildfire Response and Recovery Management.

Kendra joined Parks Canada in 2006 as a campground attendant in Banff National Park. She since held various positions in Banff, Yoho and Kootenay National Parks in Integrated Land Use Policy and Planning, Realty and Townsites, Asset Management, Visitor Experience and Highway Operations. With a distinguished career spanning over 17 years with the organization, Kendra brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this pivotal role in the recovery and rebuilding efforts for Jasper National Park.

I am also pleased to announce that Ifan Thomas has accepted a temporary assignment working alongside the Jasper Field Unit Superintendent, and with Kendra, to advance important work to provide interim housing to individuals and families affected by the fire.

Most recently, Ifan led Parks Canada’s efforts in the implementation of the Wood Buffalo Action Plan. Ifan has a long-standing connection to the community of Jasper and knowledge of the Park, notably in various planning capacities. He also brings valuable experience gained during the recent Kenow Wildfire from his time as Field Unit Superintendent, Waterton Lakes.

Please join me in thanking Kendra and Ifan for stepping into these roles during such a challenging time for Jasper and in wishing them all the best with their new function.
