Honouring Veterans’ Week and Remembrance Day 2025

Dear colleagues,

In the days leading up to Remembrance Day, we mark Veterans’ Week,  from November 5 to 11. Once again, we will pause, reflect, and honour the members of the Canadian Armed Forces, past and present, who have served the country through times of conflict and peace.

On November 8, National Indigenous Veterans Day, we will also take time to recognize the significant contributions and sacrifices of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit veterans, whose service  is an integral part of our shared history.

This year’s theme, “Canadian Armed Forces in the Americas”, highlights the vital role our military has played both at home and abroad, reflecting Canada’s steadfast commitment to being a good neighbour and ally. Through its commemorative efforts, Parks Canada honours the people, places, and events that have shaped our nation and helps connect Canadians to the human experiences and values that unite us. For example, this past August, Parks Canada honoured a new Hometown Hero, Lieutenant-General (retired) Larry Ashley, who became the first and only Royal Canadian Navy officer to command Canada’s Air Force.

This week, I encourage you to take a moment to learn more, reflect, and pay tribute in your own way. Visit a local ceremony, pause for a moment of silence on November 11, or explore the many stories and resources shared by Veterans Affairs Canada to deepen your understanding of Canada’s military heritage and its ongoing legacy of service.
