Strike Position anticipated for the Border Services group (FB)

Dear colleagues,

While Parks Canada is presently not engaged in collective bargaining, the Border Services (FB) group of the Core Public Administration represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) is expected to be in a legal strike position as early as June 2, 2024.

As such, we may expect some job action and/or picket lines occurring around or near some Parks Canada premises co-occupied with the Canada Border Services Agency. Additionally, PSAC may reach out to its components to seek support in solidarity with the FB group. Parks Canada recognizes the association rights of represented employees and respects the collective bargaining process, including the right to legally strike. Parks Canada team members are reminded that participation in job action cannot occur during paid working hours.

In preparation for any potential strike activities that may impact Parks Canada locations, please refer to the guidelines below for Parks Canada employees and managers encountering picket lines when entering or leaving our premises:

  • Managers and employees are encouraged to share their contact information in the event of difficulties in reporting to and from work.
  • Employees concerned over their personal safety are to contact their manager.
  • Employees are reminded to report to work as scheduled and be present at their prescribed time and place of work unless otherwise directed.

Employees should always have their valid Parks Canada identification card. Please be patient in accessing workplaces in case of disruption and collaborate with other departments, building management, or law enforcement. By following these guidelines, employees will not experience any loss of pay due to time lost in such situations.

During any potential strike activity, we ask all employees and managers to maintain a respectful and courteous attitude towards others. Violence, harassment, or other forms of aggressive behavior will not be tolerated.

We understand that strike activities can be stressful for some employees, whether they are directly involved or not. We would like to remind everyone that the Employee and Family Assistance Program is available 24/7 by calling 1-800-268-7708 or 1-800-567-5803, or by chat at www.canada.ca/eap-chat (password: canada). Chat service is available Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Eastern time), excluding statutory holidays.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your manager.
