Expanded Early Retirement Eligibility under the Public Service Pension Plan

Hello to all,

On June 13, 2024, the President of the Treasury Board announced plans to introduce legislation that will expand eligibility for the operational service early retirement program under the public service pension plan.

The proposed changes would expand the program’s eligibility to also include some of Parks Canada frontline members employed as firefighters and search and rescue technicians.

Before these changes can be implemented, the Public Service Superannuation Act and its regulations must be amended. The Government of Canada intends to introduce these legislative changes in Parliament later this year.

Parks Canada understands that this announcement impacts some of its team members.  The organization is committed to working with the Government of Canada Pension Centre and Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat to prepare for the potential legislative changes. Further information on the timeline and eligibility will be provided when available.

Pleaseread the statement from the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat for more information about the early retirement program and the plan to expand eligibility.

Thank you,
