Reminder of the infectious disease protocol

Dear Parks Canada colleagues,

With cold and flu season on the horizon, and while COVID-19 cases appear to be on the rise, I would like to take the opportunity to remind managers and employees that the Infectious disease protocol continues to guide the maintenance of health and safety in the workplace. Please continue to adhere to the personal protective measures outlined, including staying home when sick, practicing respiratory and hand hygiene etiquette, physical distancing, as well as considering updating your vaccination.

I would also like to remind you that that the leave entitlements outlined in the collective agreement continue to apply, such as sick leave or family related leave. Other types of leave, including annual leave (vacation) and compensatory leave, may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Also, as indicated in the April 2022 "Other leave with pay (699)" guidance, a return to the standard application of the provisions of the collective agreements and terms and conditions of employment applies. This means that “Other leave with pay (699)” will only be available under exceptional circumstances and on a temporary basis. In such cases, managers are to consult with Labour Relations.

Employee well-being remains an important priority for Parks Canada. The Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) offers confidential and professional short-term counselling. It is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to assist employees and their family members to overcome the hardships they may encounter.

Thank you,

Réa McKay
