Important information: Taxes, leave balance, and first pay of 2023

Sent on January 3

Good morning,

As 2023 begins, I wish to bring important compensation updates to your attention. Please take note of the deadlines below by taking action as required, and ensure to read up on the statutory deductions that could affect your January 4, 2023 net pay.

1) 2022 taxes:

In order for pay stubs and tax slips for the 2022 tax year to be issued correctly, your home and mailing addresses must be up to date in the Phoenix pay system by January 6, 2023.

Visit ParksNet to learn how to review and updated your personal information in the Phoenix pay system.

2) 2022-23 paid leave requests:

In anticipation of the leave year-end exercise, ensure that all your paid leave requests are submitted and approved by your manager in the HR Self-Service system or through the Compensation Service Desk using the Leave Application Formby March 31, 2023.

If you have questions regarding conditions of leave or your leave balances, please refer to the Collective Agreement or contact your manager. For all technical questions, visit the HR Service Desk to submit a ticket for assistance and track your request.

3) Changes to the first pay of the 2023 calendar year:

The following statutory deductions could affect your pay and make the net amount of your first pay in 2023 different from the net amount of your last pay in 2022:

  • federal income tax rates and personal tax credits
  • provincial and territorial income tax rates and personal tax credits
  • employment insurance (EI)
  • Quebec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP)
  • Canada Pension Plan (CPP)
  • Quebec Pension Plan (QPP)

To learn more about the reasons why amounts may have changed on your first pay cheque in the new year, please refer to this information sheet.

Thank you,

Réa McKay
