The Pension Centre – When to call?

Sent on March 3,

Hello,

It can sometimes be difficult to know when to call upon the Pension Centre with our questions. Does one of the following situations apply to you? If so, we recommend that you call the Government of Canada Pension Centre in order to ensure the necessary actions are taken.

  • You are retiring within six months and need a pension estimate.
  • You are leaving the public service and need a pension estimate.
  • You are experiencing a relationship breakdown and are dividing your pension.
  • You want to set up your payment plan for pension contributions owed from a period of Leave Without Pay.
  • You need information about a service buyback.

If you have access to the Compensation Web Applications (CWA), you can also use the Pension Portal for Active members to estimate your pension entitlements using real-time data.

If you don’t have access to the CWA, you can use the Basic Pension Calculator to estimate your pension entitlements using information you input directly into the calculator.

And finally, don’t forget to consult the Canada.ca/pension-benefits. It holds a wealth of information on the public service pension, health, dental and disability plans. We recommend bookmarking this page for easy access throughout your career.

Thank you,

Réa McKay
