Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

This is a very busy lock station on weekends as many boaters make the trip from Lake Simcoe to Georgian Bay and return. Some souvenirs and charts may be purchased at the lock. Please note there is a maximum of 1 night mooring period available at this lock station.

History
Construction of the Couchiching lockstation
Constructed: 1914-1920

The last lock to be built, this section of the Severn Division commenced in August 1914, but work stopped in 1917 due to wartime shortages. Construction re-commenced in 1919 and the lock was officially opened in July 1920. In addition to the lock, the contractors also built a new railway bridge for the Candian National Railway that was diverted because of the canal.
