Lock 34 - Fenelon Falls

Only a step from downtown Fenelon Falls, Lock 34 is located on an island. With a population of 1600, the town of Fenelon Falls offers a wide variety of services. The beautiful falls can be found on the lower side of the lock station. Boaters should take extra care while approaching the lock and watch for valve discharge or intake. Please note there is a maximum of a 2 night mooring period available at this lock station because of its popularity.

History

Constructed: 1882-1885

By the 1870s Fenelon Falls had railway links but civic leaders lobbied for the construction of a canal route as well. In 1882 the Government approved the construction of a flight lock and awarded the contract to A.F. Manning. The flight lock was replaced by a single concrete lock in 1964. The lock was very popular with steamboat operators in the past and remains a busy station to this day.
