Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

April 5, 2024 – BOBCAYGEON, ON – As Parks Canada prepares for the upcoming navigation season on the Trent-Severn Waterway, we would like to inform residents and visitors that the Bobcaygeon Swing Bridge will undergo short intermittent closures over the coming weeks.

These closures are necessary to allow the Parks Canada maintenance teams to install vertical end lifts to ensure the bridge seals tightly to the abutments during normal swing operations, which will commence when the navigation season opens on May 17. Site clean-up and landscaping will also be undertaken during this time.

The intermittent closures will be timed to ensure the least impact on the community, and detailed information regarding the timing and duration of these short closures will be provided in advance. For any planned closures requiring a longer duration (half-day/full-day closures), notifications will be issued with 24-hour notice.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Bobcaygeon community for their patience and understanding throughout the construction period. We remain committed to minimizing disruptions while ensuring the safety and functionality of this vital transportation link.

Parks Canada is leading this important infrastructure work to ensure safe, high-quality experiences for visitors by improving heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas, including along the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site.
