Community Update: Bobcaygeon Swing Bridge Rehabilitation

Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

July 13, 2023 – BOBCAYGEON, ON – Progress on the Bobcaygeon Swing Bridge rehabilitation continues. The configuration and installation of mechanical equipment has taken place beneath the bridge, and the installation and levelling of the end ramps has also been completed. Additional steps that have been completed also include the installation of the swing cylinders and the installation of the locking pin.

The contractor has placed rebar on the south abutment and is installing concrete forms to pour the bottom face of the south abutment wall. The contractor has informed Parks Canada that the concrete pour will commence later this week, with the hydraulic work scheduled for next week. Following these steps, workers will be on-site to connect and test the hydraulics to the bridge.

The remaining tasks include the forming and pouring of concrete on the top of the bridge’s north and south abutments, installation and final testing of the remaining mechanical and electrical components, and paving. Parks Canada continues to work with the contractor, stressing the importance of completing the project as soon as possible and in accordance with their stated timelines.

Parks Canada is leading this important infrastructure work to ensure safe, high-quality experiences for visitors by improving heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas, including along the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site.
