Description
Reserve a special winter guided tour of the historic Halifax Citadel with your family or small group (up to 12 participants per tour).
- Discover how the British soldiers lived in the 19th century fort and how they survived the cold Halifax winters
- Time your tour with the noon gun and experience a Halifax tradition!

Dates and times
- Weekdays from Monday, March 16 to Friday, March 20, 2026 — No tours offered on weekends
- 11 am, 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm
Duration
- Tours are approximately 45 to 60 minutes

- Meet at the front entrance kiosk
- This experience is partly indoors and partly outdoors
Group sizes
- Maximum 12 participants per tour
- Tours are available to families or friend groups only – interested camps or commercial groups may inquire about private tours: bookings@halifaxcitadel.ca

How to book
- Reserve tours online through Eventbrite
- Bookings will be processed exclusively via Eventbrite
- Bookings for each day will close 24 hours in advance
Cancellation policy
- Please email: info@halifaxcitadel.ca
- Tours can be rescheduled (subject to availability) or cancelled, with a refund, up to 5 pm the day before
- Please note that Eventbrite fees are non refundable

- Washrooms are only located in one place: across from the Cavalier Building near the front gate, next to the security office

- Accessible parking near the front entrance kiosk (facing the Old Town Clock and Brunswick Street)
- Parking lot for 80 cars in the West Ditch; stairs from the parking lot to the tour

Accessibility considerations
Distance from parking lot and description of route
- Tour begins near the front entrance kiosk – very close to the accessible parking spots (facing the Old Town Clock and Brunswick Street)
Program location and seating
- Groups visit a variety of indoor and outdoor locations during the tour
- Exact routes vary by guide and tour routes can be customized by guides upon request (based on groups’ interests and abilities)
- Walking approximately 500 m to 750 m, with up to 200 m between stops but usually shorter
- Ground surfaces include gravel, cobblestones and grass; surfaces may be wet, muddy or snow/ice covered
- Routes may include narrow doorways, dark passages and steep stairs
- Some historically-accurate seating is available in some rooms, such as: benches, chairs without armrests, guardroom daybeds and barrack room beds

Sound and sensory considerations
- Some spaces are dark or poorly lit and many spaces are small, with short and narrow doorways and passageways
- Guides speak at a volume appropriate for the size of the group
- 11 am tours include the noon gun firing, which produces a loud, sudden noise and smoke with a distinct sulfur-like smell
Less busy times and areas
- March Break is less busy than the summer, with approximately 200 visitors per day
- The site is usually busiest from 10 am to 2 pm
