Wood Buffalo National Park

The best places to fish in Wood Buffalo National Park are along the major rivers that border the park: Slave River, Peace River, Athabasca River, Rivière des Rochers, Chenal des Quatre Fourches.
In these rivers, whitefish, northern pike, walleye and goldeye are found in moderate numbers, although the muddy and silty waters make fishing more challenging.
Saline conditions, and shallow, muddy lakes located within the park are not good habitat for fish. Many of the deeper karst lakes, do not have inflow or outflow channels which fish require for spawning.
A National Park fishing permit is required, if fishing from within the park. Permits can be purchased at the Visitor Reception Centre in Fort Smith or Fort Chipewyan.
Fishing season: Victoria Day in May - October 15
