National parks are unique places that require unique rules and regulations. Laws are designed to protect you (the visitor) and the park for continued use and enjoyment by Indigenous peoples and future generations. The good news is... Thaidene Nëné National Park Reserve allows for some activities not allowed in other national parks! It is your responsibility to be aware of the laws and regulations. Visitor Registration
All visitors to Thaidene Nëné National Park Reserve must be registered. Parks Canada’s northern parks use backcountry registration systems as part of their visitor safety programs. There is no cost to register your trip.

Fishing
If you plan on fishing in Thaidene Nëné National Park Reserve, you will require a Parks Canada fishing permit. Please be aware that, although the same catch limits apply, an NWT fishing licence is NOT valid inside the National Park Reserve. Harvesting Berries and Plants
Visitors are allowed to pick berries and gather medicinal and healing plants in Thaidene Nëné National Park Reserve for their personal use. Harvesting is not allowed in other national parks.

Cutting and Gathering Wood
In Thaidene Nëné National Park Reserve you can cut and collect wood for personal campfires and temporary shelters. Please be aware that cutting and collecting of wood are activities that are not allowed in most other national parks.

Leave What You Find
Leave rocks, plants and other natural objects as you find them. In Thaidene Nëné National Park Reserve you may take berries, medicinal and healing plants, and wood for campfires and temporary shelters; these are all activities that are not allowed in other national parks.

You are welcome to photograph cultural or historic structures, resources and artifacts. Disturbing or collecting any of these is illegal. Help us to deepen our understanding of the area by reporting any cultural artifacts found and their location.

Hunting
Please be aware that visitors are NOT allowed to hunt in Thaidene Nëné National Park Reserve. Traditional harvesters, lease holders (within National Park Reserve) possessing a NWT hunting licence (small game only), or holders of a Special Harvester Licence are permitted to hunt.

Firearms
Visitors are permitted to carry firearms for defense against wildlife only. Use of firearms should only occur as a last resort. Visitors should carry bear spray and be bear safe at all times. Please note that visitors are not allowed to use firearms for defense in other national parks.

Snowmobiles
Visitors are allowed to travel by snowmobile in Thaidene Nëné National Park Reserve. Snowmobile safely!  Please be aware of hazards, including local weather and ice conditions.

Drones
The use of drones is restricted in national parks. Recreational drone use is prohibited and commercial drone use requires a permit.

Dogs
Visitors must keep dogs and pets under control at all times. Do not leave your pet unattended at your campsite or anywhere else during your visit to Thaidene Nëné National Park Reserve. Wildlife, weather and an unfamiliar environment can be scary or dangerous for your pet. Please clean up after your pet.

Business Licences
Commercial and non-profit organizations require a business licence to operate in Thaidene Nëné National Park Reserve. Parks Canada defines “business” as any trade, industry, employment, occupation, activity or special event carried on in the National Park Reserve, for profit, gain, fundraising or commercial promotion, and includes an undertaking carried on in a park by a charitable organization, or by an organization or individual on a non-profit basis.

Aircraft Access Permits
All aircraft must comply with the Canadian Aviation Regulations, and National Parks of Canada Aircraft Access Regulations. Please be aware that take-offs and landings in a national park require a Parks Canada aircraft access permit. Seasonal permits are available at no charge.

Fuel caching
A fuel caching permit is required to store fuel at the Reliance fuel cache. Permits are available at no charge.

Film permits
A film permit or filming registration is required for anyone taking pictures or footage for commercial reasons (e.g., film production, photography contract, or intending to sell images, or providing images to expedition sponsors).
