All visitors fishing in the National Park must possess a valid Thaidene Nene National Park Reserve fishing permit. Northwest Territories Fishing Licences are not valid in Thaidene Nene National Park Reserve. A fishing permit is not required for traditional harvesting by Aboriginal peoples.

The annual fishing permit is valid in Thaidene Nene National Park Reserve from April 1 to March 31 the following year.

You need a Thaidene Nene National Park Reserve fishing permit if you are 16 years and older.

Anyone under the age of 16 may fish in national parks without a permit if accompanied by a permit holder 16 years of age or older. However, their catch is then included within the permit holder's daily limit. They may also purchase their own permit and be entitled to the full catch limit.

A fishing permit is not required for traditional harvesting by Aboriginal peoples.

A Thaidene Nene National Park Reserve fishing permit costs $10.25 per day or $35.75 for the season. Thaidene Nene National Park Reserve is waiving fishing permit fees for the 2022-2023 season (April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023).

Parks Canada has incorporated by reference the Fisheries Act, the Northwest Territories Fishery Regulations, the Fishery (General) Regulations and any other applicable recreational fishing laws. These laws and regulations are made to apply to the waters in Thaidene Nene National Park Reserve. Therefore, the catch and possession limits stay the same as for the waters outside the National Park Reserve.

The National Park Reserve overlaps with Area VI of Great Slave Lake. Therefore, the Lake Trout possession and catch restrictions for Area VI apply.

The total daily catch limit for lake trout in Area VI, regardless of whether you are inside or outside the National Park Reserve, is one (1) and the possession limit is two (2).

What else do I need to know?

• Have your fishing licence with you at all times.
• Barbless hooks are mandatory for sport fishing.
• Stay within the daily catch and possession limit.
• Stay safe by practicing safe boating and being bear aware.
• Make sure all campfires are completely out before leaving them.
• Dispose of entrails by puncturing the swim bladder and depositing them into deep or moving water downstream of your camp, using a boat if available.
