Maria Street Swing Bridge Temporary Closure

Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

PETERBOROUGH, ON – August 24, 2022 – Parks Canada advises that the Maria Street Swing Bridge located at Lock 20 between Armour Road and Ashburnham Drive in Peterborough, Ontario, will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic on August 29-31, 2022, between the daytime hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The bridge will be open during the evening hours and overnight, and boat traffic will not be affected by the closure. This closure is necessary to complete repair work to ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of the bridge.

Detour signage will be posted to direct motorists to alternate crossings at Parkhill Road East (via the Warsaw Road Swing Bridge) or Lansdowne Street. For the safety of area residents, drivers are asked to follow the detours in order to limit traffic on quieter residential streets. Trucks greater than 5 tonnes are advised to avoid the Hunter Street crossing at the Peterborough Lift Lock and Macfarlane Street Bridge due to load and clearance limitations.

We thank area residents and visitors for your patience and understanding.

Parks Canada is leading this important infrastructure work to ensure safe, high-quality experiences for visitors by improving heritage, visitor, waterway, and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas, including investments in the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site of Canada.
