Questions and Answers 

The new dam will respect the historic look of the site and have a life expectancy of more than 80 years. This project is part of over $125M investment in Parks Canada assets in the City of Peterborough.

Warsaw Road Swing Bridge Replacement

Scope of Work

  • Full replacement of steel swing bridge structure
  • Repairs to concrete abutments
  • Replacement of mechanical and electrical operating systems

Status

Active construction

Project Schedule

The bridge will reopen to vehicles in July 2021, with landscaping to follow in fall 2021, in cooler temperatures.

Questions and Answers

The Warsaw Road Swing Bridge was originally constructed in 1956, and is a twin to the Maria St. Swing Bridge (also in the City of Peterborough). Large portions of the new bridge will be constructed off site and assembled in place to minimize impact to the public.

Otonabee Dam at Lock 23

  • Full replacement of concrete dam
  • Reduce leakage and improve water management capacity
  • Improved safety for operators and visitors
  • Restoration of pedestrian access to dam
  • New log lifter

Construction mobilized in the fall of 2018. The new dam is expected to be complete in winter 2021, with restoration of the site that summer.

The Dam at Lock 23 Otonabee is located in the very north of the City of Peterborough. Lock 23 is part of a run of 5 locks that take boaters from Lakefield to Peterborough along the Otonabee River. This site also has an intake for the hydro power generating facility, run by Peterborough Utilities, located near the Dam at Lock 22.
