Wood Buffalo National Park
Following a recommendation by Parks Canada due to forecasted fire behaviour and potential impacts to Highway 5, the town of Fort Smith has issued an evacuation ORDER for the safety of the public. Multiple wildfires are actively burning throughout Wood Buffalo National Park. Pine Lake Road is closed from the park boundary at Salt River bridge to Peace Point, the Salt Plains Access Rd and Day-Use Area is closed, Mile 99 Fire Base is under an area closure, backcountry camping is prohibited throughout the park, and a recreational fire ban is in place. You can get here by road year-round.From Yellowknife
Travel south on Highway 3 for 338 km. Turn left onto Highway 1, and go 103 km to Enterprise. Turn left onto Highway 2 and go 25 km. Turn right onto Highway 5 and go 264 km to Fort Smith.From Edmonton and High Level
Head north towards High Level, AB. From High Level, take Highway 35 to the Alberta-Northwest Territories border. Continue on the Mackenzie Highway/Highway 1 for 83 km to Enterprise. Turn right onto Highway 2 N and go 25 km. Turn right onto Highway 5 and travel 264 km through the park to Fort Smith.
