Play Waltes! is a hands-on Mi'kmaw activity guided experience program offered at Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site in July, August and September.

Description

Waltes is a traditional Mi’kmaw game known for its blend of strategy and chance, making it an exciting and fun fast-moving rivalry! Waltes holds deep cultural significance for the Mi'kmaq. It is more than just a game, it is a vital part of Mi’kmaw heritage and social life. Come try your hand at it and perhaps settle a bet with your fellow travellers!

Distance from parking lot and description of route

• 150 metres from the Merrymakedge parking lot P4 to Etli-Mawita'mk: The Gathering Place
• The path is paved and even for part of the way from the parking lot to the middle
• The rest of the path is not paved, but it is a groomed path with a semi-hard base made of pine needles

Program location and seating

• The program takes place outside at Etli-Mawita'mk: The Gathering Place
• Visitors will sit at benches and picnic tables to play Waltes with one another

Equipment

• One medium-sized all-terrain wheelchair is available to borrow at the Visitor Centre, free of charge, first come, first served

Sound and sensory

• The program takes place outdoors, with the possible option of going inside during inclement weather
• Participants may see a squirrel that is currently nesting in the building
