Description

How did the Mi’kmaq get tools and hunting equipment 5000 years ago? They knapped! Flint knapping is the ancient skill that uses hard stone and bone to shape, carve and create the tools necessary for survival. Join Nick and experience this ancient craft coming back to life.

• 150 metres from the Merrymakedge parking lot P4 to Etli-Mawita'mk: The Gathering Place
• The path is paved and even for part of the way from the parking lot to the middle
• The rest of the path is not paved, but it is a groomed path with a semi-hard base made of pine needles

Program location and seating

• The program takes place outside Etli-Mawita'mk: The Gathering Place
• Participants can watch the demonstration and talk with interpreters
• Seating options include: benches, camp chairs, hard-back chairs and picnic tables

Equipment

• One medium-sized all-terrain wheelchair is available to borrow at the Visitor Centre, free of charge, first come, first served

Sound and sensory

• The program takes place outdoors, with the possible option of going inside during inclement weather
• Participants may see a squirrel that is currently nesting in the building
