The Fur Trade at Lachine National Historic Site
Experience the adventure of the fur trade! This grand epic awaits you at the very place where the journey to Western Canada began. In an authentic stone warehouse, built in 1803 and located on the banks of the Lachine Canal, discover the perilous canoe expedition of French Canadian voyageurs, Indigenous trappers, and European merchants. Come touch, observe, and feel the authentic skins and furs, the bundles, a wooden bark canoe, and more.
Useful information
The Fur Trade at Lachine National Historic Site is temporarily closed to the public for the season and will reopen in spring 2026. In the meantime:- The site welcomes groups (schools, social clubs, etc.) for guided tours from April to November, upon reservation only. See details.
- The outdoor areas can be visited freely and at no cost, but please note that the visitor centre and restrooms are not accessible.
