Guided tour of the stone fort
Discover Chambly Fort and its impressive architecture during an outdoor tour. You'll have the chance to learn more about the history of this bastioned fortification through the eyes and detailed explanations of our guides. An ideal activity for those who prefer verbal explanations to reading interpretation panels!
During the guided tour, you'll learn more about how Fort de Chambly was a veritable war machine, why a fort was built in Chambly in 1711, who were the soldiers who built it, what are the particularities of the fortification, what are its main defensive elements and how the soldiers lived there.

Location: the activity takes place outside the fort, rain or shine, so make sure you wear appropriate clothing in case of rain.

Audience: the activity is accessible to people of all ages, but the content is aimed more at adults.
Accessibility: the activity takes place outdoors, on asphalt or gravel paths, and on grassy surfaces. The presentation is delivered vocally by a guide and includes visual and audio information. The presentation does not include subtitles.

Uniform demonstration
Audience participation is solicited and you may have the chance to dress up as a colonial soldier... without the inconvenience. Accompanied by a guide who will explain the characteristics of military attire, you'll also be able to demonstrate antique rifles and their peculiarities. A perfect activity for families and children!

Audience: the activity is participative and aimed at people of all ages.
Accessibility: the activity is generally held indoors, but can also be presented outdoors. A wheelchair lift allows access to the second floor, if required. The demonstration is delivered vocally by a guide and includes visual and audio information. The presentation does not include subtitles. Costumes can be touched.

Good to know! Period soldier costumes (for children and adults) are also available for self-service at the entrance to the inner courtyard, on days when the weather is cooperative. Now's your chance to dress up!
Archaeology workshop
A guide will introduce you to the greatest artifacts from Fort Chambly's archaeological collection, including replicas and authentic objects found during excavations in and around the fort's inner courtyard in the 1970s. Ideal for keeping the kids entertained!

Accessibility: the activity takes place indoors, in a large room on the first floor with a flat floor and no steps, but with wheelchair access ramps. The film features visual and audio information. The film is not subtitled. The room is spacious and well-lit, with easy circulation. The room is usually not crowded. There are several benches for sitting and watching the film.
Why build a Fort in Chambly?
Theme: presenting the fort's archaeological excavations and restoration work
Length: about 5 minutes
Location: on the first floor in room 20 (bread oven room)
Languages offered: French and English
Accessibility: the activity takes place indoors, in a room on the first floor with a flat floor and no steps, but with wheelchair access ramps. The film features visual and audio information. The film is not subtitled. The room is dark and circulation is restricted. The room is usually not crowded. There is a bench to sit on, but it is far from the screen where the film is being shown.
Parks Canada Xplorers program
The Xplorers program is dedicated for children for children aged 6 to 11 visiting Parks Canada sites with their families. At Fort Chambly, the Xplorers take children on a hunt for clues, which are hidden in the exhibition halls. Memorize the clues and find the secret password to earn a reward. On your marks, get set, Xplore!

Self guided tour
You can visit all the exhibitions in the fort and military structure on your own.
Before beginning your tour of the fort, we recommend watching the two historical films to get a good introduction to the story of the fortification.
Don't miss a visit to the powder magazine and the bread oven room, where you can learn more from the interpretation panels.

Accessibility: the activity can take place indoors and/or outdoors, if desired. A wheelchair lift provides access to the second floor. The fort's floors are flat and include wheelchair access ramps. There are many interpretive panels to read and objects to see. Circulation between rooms is relatively easy. The number of visitors varies according to the time of day.
