History
The Halifax Citadel was declared a National Historic Site in 1952. Today its restored walls welcome all who wish to learn about defining moments in Canadian history.
Architecture
In 1951, the Halifax Citadel was transferred to Parks Canada for restoration. Over the following decades, teams of dedicated historians, archaeologists, engineers, architects, masons, and carpenters worked to return the Citadel to its original mid-nineteenth century appearance.
