Massasauga Rattlesnake
Bruce Peninsula National Park
Scientific name: Sistrurus catenatus
Status: Threatened
Once common throughout Ontario, the rare and elusive Massasauga rattlesnake now lives in a limited range of areas. Bruce Peninsula National Park protects critical Massasauga habitat, and is one of the last places this species can be found. As a venomous snake, the Massasauga is a highly misunderstood species. These snakes are actually quite shy and timid. If you spot one while visiting the park, consider yourself lucky!
