Notice of restrictions: Fishing restrictions
EFFECTIVE DATE:
April 1st to August 31st, 2026.
RESTRICTED ACTIVITIES:
Pursuant to section 35(1) of the National Parks of Canada Fishing Regulations, the following activities are hereby RESTRICTED by order of the Superintendent, Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
FISHING IS RESTRICTED AS FOLLOWS:
1. No person shall, when fishing in park waters, use a hook unless it is a single hook and
a. it is a barbless hook; or
b. the barbs have been removed from it; or
c. the barbs have been pinched to the shaft of the hook.
2. No person shall use or have in their possession for use as bait any natural bait or any chemical attractant. This includes live or dead minnows or worms or any parts thereof.
3. Catch and possession limits – Catch and Release.

a. No person shall, in park waters, catch and retain fish of the species in Table 1.
b. No person shall possess, within park boundaries, fish of the species in Table 1.
c. Any person who catches a fish of the species in Table 1, in park waters, shall immediately unhook the fish and return it to the water with as little damage to the fish as possible.
d. No person shall release any chain pickerel or smallmouth bass caught within the boundaries of the park. Any person who catches chain pickerel or small mouth bass shall retain, kill, and register their daily catch in the manner set out in the Sportfish Management and Protection brochure.

To protect park watersheds and prevent further spread of invasive species.
NOTE:
It is an offence under the Canada National Parks Act to contravene these restrictions. Failure to comply may result in fishing permit suspension or charges.

Restricted activity: Preservation of Mi'kmaw heritage and petroglyph sites
Effective date:
Until further notice.
Prohibited activities:
Pursuant to section 12(1) of the National Historic Parks General Regulations, the following activities are hereby PROHIBITED by order of the Superintendent, Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
It is prohibited to:
Enter the Kejimkujik Mi’kmaw Petroglyph sites.
Where:
Mi’kmaw Petroglyph sites within Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada as delineated below.
Why:
To preserve the integrity of the heritage site and minimize the risk of Petroglyph damage.
Penalty:
It is an offence under the Canada National Parks Act to contravene these prohibitions. Violators may be charged.

Restricted activity: Restriction on alcohol consumption
Effective date:
Until further notice.
Prohibited activities:
Pursuant to section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, the following activities are hereby PROHIBITED by order of the Superintendent, Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
It is prohibited to:
(a) Consume liquor or possess open liquor except
(i) on a campsite with a valid camping permit
(b) Be in an intoxicated condition in a public place
Where:
Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada/Kejimkujik Seaside, Kejimkujik National Park of Canada
Why:
To minimise the degree of noise and disturbance to visitors and enhance the safety and enjoyment of Kejimkujik.
Penalty:
It is an offence under the Canada National Parks Act to contravene these prohibitions. Failure to comply may result in immediate cancellation of a camping permit, eviction from the campground and violators may be charged. Camping fees will not be refunded.

Restricted activity: Smoking restriction
Effective date:
Until further notice.
Prohibited activities:
Pursuant to section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, the following activities are hereby PROHIBITED by order of the Superintendent, Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
It is prohibited to:
(1) smoke, vape or consume cannabis or tobacco within Jeremy’s Bay Campground including Meadow, Kedge and Slapfoot Beaches (refer to map)
(i) except on a campsite with a valid camping permit
(2) smoke or vape cannabis or tobacco:
(a) on or within 20m of a playground
(b) on or within 9m of a trail
(c) inside or within 4m of public buildings
(i) except in designated smoking areas
(d) on the following day-use areas (refer to map):
(i) Jake’s Landing Boat Launch
(ii) Merrymakedge Beach
(iii) Merrymakedge Picnic Area
Where:
Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
Why:
To protect the public from second-hand smoke in alignment with the Smoke-free Places Act in Nova Scotia and to promote a quality visitor experience.
Penalty:
It is an offence under the Canada National Parks Act to contravene these prohibitions. Violators may be charged.

Restricted activity: Unmanned air vehicles (UAV)
Effective date:
Until further notice.
Prohibited activities:
Pursuant to section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, and notwithstanding Transport Canada Guidelines for operating Unmanned Air Vehicles, the following activities are hereby PROHIBITED by order of the Superintendent, Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
Prohibition:
It is prohibited to operate, launch, or land a UAV except with written authorization from the Superintendent.
For the purposes of this order, a UAV is any powered device capable of sustained flight, which is controlled remotely or is self-operating, and does not carry passengers. This includes but is not limited to air or balloon drones, aeroplanes, quadcopters, rotorcraft or similar devices.

Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada. Kejimkujik Seaside, Kejimkujik National Park of Canada.
Why:
To reduce disturbance to visitors and wildlife, and for safety of aircraft used in park operations.
Penalty:
It is an offence under the Canada National Parks Act to contravene these prohibitions. Violators may be charged.

Operate a metal detector.
Where:

Why:
To preserve the integrity of the park, minimize disturbance to visitors and enhance the enjoyment of Kejimkujik.

Camping notices
Superintendent notice: Prohibition to import, possess and burn firewood without a permit
Effective date:
Until further notice.
Prohibited activities:
Pursuant to section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, the following activities are hereby PROHIBITED by order of the Superintendent, Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
It is prohibited to:
Import, possess or burn firewood in the park, except for some wood products, such as heat treated firewood or processed bricks that are in sealed and labelled packages, under the discretion of the superintendent.
Where:
Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
Why:
The purpose of this prohibition is to help mitigate the risk of introduction and spread of invasive species that threaten forests in Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
Penalty:
It is an offence under the Canada National Parks Act to contravene these prohibitions. Violators may be charged.

Notice of prohibition: Management of noise, food and garbage in the public campgrounds
Effective date:
Until further notice
Prohibited activities:
Pursuant to section 13 of the National Parks of Canada Camping Regulations, the following activities are hereby PROHIBITED by order of the Superintendent, Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
No person shall:
- Use a generator except during the hours of 0900 to 1100 and 1630 to 1830.
- Use any radio, television, stereo, musical instrument, or anything that causes excessive noise.
- Leave any human food, pet food, or similar organic material out, except for such reasonable periods required for preparing and consuming a meal, or for clean-up immediately after. All human food, pet food, or similar organic material shall be stored inside a completely sealed vehicle or camping unit that is constructed of solid, rigid material or stored in an approved animal proof facility when provided.
- Leave any garbage unattended. All garbage must be deposited in park supplied garbage bins.
- Dispose of dishwashing and grey water other than in exterior sinks at service buildings.
- Behave in a campground in a manner that unreasonably disturbs other persons in the Park or unreasonably interferes with their enjoyment of the Park.
- Park vehicles beyond the limit of their campsite.
- Locate camping items beyond the limit of their campsite.
- Leave a pet unattended.
- Contravene prohibitions set out pursuant to section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, including consuming liquor or possessing open liquor except on a campsite with a valid permit.

All campgrounds are affected by this Notice; including Jeremy’s Bay Campground, Jim Charles Point Group Campground, cabins, Yurts, oTENTik, and primitive back-country campgrounds.
Why:
To minimise the degree of noise and disturbance to campers and enhance the safety and enjoyment of this public campground in the Park.
Note:
It is an offence under the Canada National Parks Act to contravene these prohibitions. Failure to comply may result in immediate cancellation of the camping permit, eviction from the campground and violators may be charged. Camping fees will not be refunded.

Notice of management and control of public campgrounds: Establishment of quiet hours and inspection in public campgrounds
EFFECTIVE DATE:
Until further notice.
RESTRICTED ACTIVITIES:
Pursuant to section 14 of the National Parks of Canada Camping Regulations, the following activities are hereby PROHIBITED by order of the Superintendent, Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
Hours between 2300hrs and 0700hrs of the following day shall be deemed “Quiet Hours”
- Visitors are asked to return to their own sites if camping or to vacate the campground if not staying in the campground.
- Radios and musical devised are to be turned off.
- No loud shouting or singing.
- No idling of vehicles.
WHERE:
All campgrounds are affected by this Notice; including Jeremy’s Bay Campground, Jim Charles Point Group Campground, cabins, Yurts, o’TENTiks, and primitive back-country campgrounds.
This includes all areas within the campgrounds including all drive in sites, walk in sites, playgrounds, shelters, roads and trails within Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
WHY:
To minimise the degree of noise and disturbance to campers and enhance the safety and enjoyment of this public campground in Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.

Kejimkujik National Park Seaside
Restricted activity: Bicycling restriction

Prohibited activities:
Pursuant to section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, the following activities are hereby PROHIBITED by order of the Superintendent, Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
It is prohibited to:
(a) Ride a bicycle or pedal assist E-Bike* on the following trails:
- Mersey Meadows
- Channel Lake
- Farmlands
- Rogers Brook
- Gold Mines
- Grafton Woods
- Snake Lake
- Hemlocks and Hardwoods
- Liberty Lake trail from Big Dam parking lot to Lucifee Brook
(b) Ride a bicycle or pedal assist E-bike* at Kejimkujik Seaside.

*Parks Canada defines pedal assist e-bikes as follows:
- has steering handlebars and is equipped with pedals,
- is designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground,
- is capable of being propelled by muscular power only,
- has one or more electric motors which have, singly or in combination, the following characteristics:
a. it has a total power output rating of 500 W or less,
b. power assistance immediately ceases when the muscular power ceases,
c. it is incapable of providing further assistance when the bicycle attains a speed of 32 km/h on level ground, - is equipped with a safety mechanism that prevents the motor from being engaged before the bicycle attains a speed of 3 km/h.

Prohibited activities:
Pursuant to section 35(1) of the National Parks of Canada Fishing Regulations, the following activities are hereby PROHIBITED by order of the Superintendent, Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada.
It is prohibited to:
Harvest soft-shell clams at Kejimkujik Seaside.
Where:
Kejimkujik Seaside, Kejimkujik National Park of Canada (including the lagoons at Little Port Joli Basin and St. Catherine’s River).
Why:
To preserve the ecological integrity of Kejimkujik Seaside.
Penalty:
It is an offence under the Canada National Parks Act to contravene these prohibitions. Violators may be charged.
