Hiking season in Glacier
The snow-free season is short. In May/June, some trails are snowbound or still subject to avalanche risk. In September, snow may start to accumulate at higher elevations. Check in at the Rogers Pass Discovery Centre for seasonal recommendations.
Balu Pass trail restriction
Balu Pass is important grizzly bear habitat. Between July 15 and September 30 annually, hikers on this trail must travel in tight groups that include at least four adults. This minimizes disturbance to bears and helps keep this area open to hikers.
