Fort Walsh National Historic Site

Accessible facilities

Fort Walsh is located in the scenic Cypress Hills and therefore has variable terrain. There are pathways down to the Fort and the buildings are wheelchair accessible.

A shuttle is available to transport visitors from the parking area to the fort entrance. Please inquire about accessible parking at the Visitor Reception Centre.

There are all-terrain wheelchairs available.

There are also captioned videos available.

Gift shop

Located in the visitor centre. We have books, souvenirs and Parks Canada branded merchandise. (Service availability is subject to change in response to Covid-19 health and safety precautions.)

Food services

The canteen is located in the visitor centre and offers snacks, packaged foods and cold beverages. (Service availability is subject to change in response to Covid-19 health and safety precautions.)

Lookout

Fort Walsh has spectacular views of the Cypress Hills which can best be viewed from the red chairs.

Parking

Parking facilities hold 90 cars and at least 10 buses.

Picnic area

Picnic sites are available. There is small wooded area adjacent to the parking lot and a picnic site located adjacent to Battle Creek, with a picnic shelter available for use.

RV and bus parking

There is space in the parking lot for at least 10 buses or RVs.

Restrooms

There are accessible restrooms located inside the visitor center, inside the fort as well as down by the Métis cabins.
