Halifax Citadel National Historic Site
The Halifax Citadel and the grounds are open year-round. The available programs and services change with the season. Full programming is available from May to October.
Pre-season opening dates
Halifax Citadel National Historic Site is open and offering full programming on the following pre-season dates:
- April 21, 27, 30 and May 5, from 9 am to 5 pm
Official opening day

November to May 6:
The Parade Square and accessible washrooms inside the Halifax Citadel remain open, weather permitting. The Visitor Centre and all period rooms and exhibits are closed. More information
November 1 to May 6
- Open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm
- Open Saturday and Sunday, 9 am to 4 pm
Limited programs and services available:
- Parade Square and accessible washrooms inside the Halifax Citadel, weather permitting
- Noon Gun firing, every day except Christmas day
- Facility and meeting rentals

Closed from November 1 to May 6:
- The interior rooms and exhibits are closed
- The upper level of the fort walls (ramparts) are closed for visitor safety
May 7 to October 31
- Open daily, 9 am to 5 pm
