75 years of Signal Hill as a national historic site
Signal Hill National Historic Site
In 2026, Signal Hill marks the 75th anniversary of its designation as a National Historic Site. Originally designated for its significant military and communications history, Signal Hill has since become a well-loved gathering place where people can come together and experience history and the outdoors in a truly unique setting.
We are very excited to celebrate with you to mark Signal Hill National Historic Site's 75th anniversary, which also coincides with the 125th anniversary of the first trans-Atlantic signal which was received at Signal Hill!
Stay tuned to this page to discover all the opportunities there will be to get involved throughout the season.

Join the adventure and take part in citizen science!
Explore the site alongside Parks Canada and Nature NL staff as we search for, document, and identify as many species as possible. Your discoveries will contribute to real scientific knowledge by being logged in the free iNaturalist app.
Bring your binoculars and field guides if you have them—and don’t worry if you don’t. A limited number of field bags will be available to borrow on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
After the survey, stick around to get help identifying your finds and to see what everyone discovered. It’s a great opportunity to learn, connect, and contribute to conservation—no experience required.
