WHAT: Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the Canada National Parks Act General Regulations, bicycles and bicycling are hereby prohibited on trails and in off-road areas within Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks of Canada by order of the Superintendent, with the exception of the trails listed below. Activities associated with building and maintaining trails by unauthorized persons are also prohibited.

The six trails listed as exceptions below allow mountain bikers to enjoy riding the lower slopes of Mount Revelstoke National Park and the lower Beaver Valley Trail in Glacier, while ensuring the safety of hikers, reducing the possibility of wildlife conflict and preventing damage to other hiking and walking trails.

WHERE: All of Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks with the exception of:

1. The 5km Soren Sorenson Trail loop at the base of Mount Revelstoke;

2. The 2km Soren Sorenson Trail loop at the base of Mount Revelstoke; 

3. The 23 Connector Trail linking the Meadows in the Sky Parkway to Highway 23N. This trail begins at the gravel pull-off before the Parkway gate and descends to Highway 23N. Bikers should follow the old maintenance compound road and turn left near the two historic buildings to access the trail;

4. The Mount Revelstoke Trail from the Tournament of Champions Trailhead (near the Revelstoke Railway Museum) to the Nels Nelsen Historic Area. Please note: a short section of this trail is not accessible to cyclists. Uphill and downhill cyclists must not use the gravel trail that climbs up from the westbound off-ramp of the parkway/highway interchange. That section of the trail has reduced sightlines and sharp corners, and is for the use of hikers only. Cyclists must by-pass this section of trail by riding the Meadows in in the Sky Parkway from the interchange to the first right turn beyond the log Welcome archway. A short trail connects back to the Nels Nelsen Trail at this point. Watch for the green and blue trailhead sign; 

5. The lower Beaver Valley Trail from the trailhead (near the Beaver Valley gravel pit) to the Grizzly Creek bridge. Please note: no biking is allowed on the Beaver Valley Trail or Copperstain Trail beyond Grizzly Creek. These areas have been designated Priority Wildlife Corridors. Mountain biking is not allowed on the Bald Mountain Wilderness Hiking Route or in the Copperstain Valley, below Copperstain Pass;

6. The Snowforest Connector Trail.  This trail links the Soren Sorenson Trail loop to the Snowforest campground ending at the B-loop campground road behind the washroom building.  Note that the trail that branches off of the Snowforest Connector Trail to provide access to D-loop walk-in sites is for pedestrians only.  Cyclists are permitted to walk their bikes on this section of trail, but biking is not allowed.

Cyclists should be aware that these six mountain bike trails are shared with hikers and walkers. Caution must be used when approaching pedestrians. Mountain biking restrictions are valid until further notice.

PENALTY: Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act. Maximum penalty $25 000.
