Learn to Camp: At Home - S'mores

Can’t get away for the weekend? Craving some toasted marshmallows? Why not get outside and experience our favourite parts of camping from the comfort of your own backyard! Our list of Learn to Camp: At Home activities are sure to bring the camping feeling right to your home.

Being at home might not be as fun as being out in the wilderness camping, but it’s the perfect place to experiment with classic camping recipes to create a new twist! While you have different ingredients at your fingertips, it’s time to experiment.

To make s’mores at home, you have a few options:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Line a baking sheet with graham crackers;

Place a square of chocolate on each cracker, then place a marshmallow on top;

Place your baking sheet in the oven for 5 minutes, or until the marshmallows are beginning to melt;

Remove the sheet from the oven and place a second graham cracker on top of the marshmallows. Note: be careful when taking your s’mores off of your baking sheet as it will be hot!

Enjoy your indoor s’mores!

Outdoor Option 1

If you have a hot dog roasting stick, we recommend using that to roast your marshmallow.

Roast your marshmallow over the fire, it’s hot, so be safe;

Once toasted to your liking, assemble your s’more using the roasted marshmallow, chocolate and graham crackers.

Outdoor Option 2

If you don’t have a roasting stick, you can use tin foil to achieve a delicious melty s’more!

Assemble your s’more using one graham cracker, a piece of chocolate, a marshmallow and finally a second graham cracker on top;

Wrap tightly in tin foil and place near fire to melt;

Pull your s’more away from the fire. It will be hot so be careful! Use an oven mitt, or ask an adult to help you;

Carefully unwrap your s’more from its tin foil wrapping.

Fun s’more ideas

Who doesn’t love to change it up sometimes? Here are some fancy new modifications you can make to your s’more. Get creative!

  • Place a pretzel inside the s’more between the chocolate and marshmallow;
  • Use a cookie instead of graham crackers;
  • Add some caramel sauce in the s’more;
  • Put chocolate candies inside the s’more;
  • Put fruit inside the s’more. Flavours like pineapple or coconut go great with sweet treats!;
  • Use the biggest marshmallow you can find. Make a giant cookie to use with it;
  • Add nuts;
  • Make a double decker s’more;
  • The “Canadian” s’more: Add some bacon and maple syrup.

Sit back and enjoy!
