Park Firewood Program and Campfire Permits
Beginning spring 2025, free firewood is not provided in day use areas or campgrounds.
Located near Prince Albert National Park’s South Gate entrance on scenic Highway #263, Sandy Lake campground rests within a mature forest of spruce, fir and aspen trees. Situated on the eastern shore of Sandy Lake this campground offers easy access to a great beach, picnic shelter and boat launch facilities. Sandy Lake also offers excellent Northern Pike and Walleye fishing.
Sandy Lake Campground can accommodate tents and camping units up to a maximum of 27ft.
Sandy Lake Campground features,
- 25 back-in sites, unserviced campsites
- 6 unserviced, walk-in tenting sites
- Non-reservable, campground operates on a “first come first served” self-registration basis.
- Accessible Pit toilets
- Firewood (permit can be purchased at self-registration)
- Fish cleaning station
- Camp kitchen and picnic area by lakefront
- Boat launch
- Buoyed swim area
- RV dump station 3 km south on Highway #263
Each Campsite includes,
- Picnic table
- Fire-pit (A fire permit must be purchased when checking in at self-registration.)
- Raised, gravel camping area.
Please note:
There is no water supply available at the Sandy Lake Campground however potable water is supplied at the Meridian sanitation dump/fill station (3km south of Sandy Lake) and the Beaver Glen Campground in Waskesiu.
Wi-Fi is available within the town of Waskesiu. For more information on commercial services and facilities available in Waskesiu visit the Waskesiu Chamber of Commerce.
Campground Check In / Check Out
Self-registration kiosk:
- On arrival drive through the campground and choose your site and set-up prior to registration.
- Note your site number and immediately return to the self-registration kiosk and fill in one of the envelopes provided.
- Place cash or cheque into the envelope, or fill out credit card information, making sure to include payment in full for all registered nights and fire permits.*
- Remove the permit stub portion.
- Deposit the envelope into the vault next to the self-registration kiosk.
- Place permit stub on site post.
* If you prefer to pay by debit ensure you have set up camp first and then visit the Visitor Centre in Waskesiu or the South Gate to make payment.
Check in time is 2:00 pm.
Check out time is 11:00 am.

The map is labelled Sandy Lake Campground. This map shows the Sandy Lake Campground from a bird’s eye view. The map depicts the locations of each campsite and the amenities offered in the campground. There are a total of 31 campsites shown on the map.
The legend includes:
1. A blue square with a white question mark indicates the information and self registration kiosk. This is located at the entrance to the campground.
2. A blue square with the toilet symbol. This symbol indicates the washroom facilities available at the Sandy Lake Campground. There are three washrooms. One is located adjacent to the entrance of the campground, the second is located at the parking lot near the walk-in campsites, and the third is located beside campsite number 7.
3. A blue square with a picnic table indicates picnic areas. There are two picnic areas: one is located on the grassy area near the beach across from campsites 27-31, and the second is located on the beach across from the parking area near the walk-in campsites.
4. A blue square with a fish and a knife. This symbol indicates the fish cleaning station at the Sandy Lake campground. There is one fish cleaning station, located in between the two parking lots at the entrance of the campground.
5. A blue square with a white “P”. This symbol indicates the parking areas at the Sandy Lake Campground. There are four parking areas: the first and second are located prior to the entrance of the campground, the third is located at the foot of the walk-in campsites, and the fourth is located across from campsite number 7.
6. A blue square with a person depositing waste into a bin. This symbol indicates waste disposal areas within the campground. There are three waste disposal areas: the first is located beside the fish cleaning station, the second is located at the parking area at the foot of the walk-in campsites, and the third is located beside the toilet adjacent to campsite number 7.
7. A boat on a ramp indicating a boat launch. There is one boat launch, located at the foot of the two parking areas prior to the entrance of the campground.
