Grasslands National Park

Visitors are welcome to visit Grasslands National Park during the winter season, however, it is important to be aware of what your options are when exploring the park.

What is Closed:

Grasslands National Park Visitor Centres in Val Maries and Rock Creek are closed for the season.
Park Entry Fees can be processed by phone at the Visitor Centre or received at the designated self-serve locations:

  • 70 Mile Butte Kiosk
  • Ecotour North Entrance Kiosk
  • Frenchman Valley Coulee Centre Kiosk
  • Rock Creek Campground Kiosk

Front country camping is closed for the season. The Frenchman Valley and Rock Creek campgrounds will reopen May 1. Water services will resume on the May long weekend.

Badlands Parkway is closed to vehicle traffic as of November 1. It is open to foot traffic, though visitors should be aware that it is not cleared of snow in the winter.

What is open:

Frenchman Valley Day Use Area is open. This includes:

  • Coulee Centre
  • Vault toilet adjacent to Coulee Centre

Rock Creek Day Use Area is open. This includes:

  • Trail Head
  • Kitchen shelter
  • Vault toilet adjacent to kitchen shelter

The backcountry loop is open however, visitors travel at their own risk. In inclement weather, gates may be closed for safety reasons.

Back Country Camping is available. Visitors must register by phone at the Visitor Centre. Timbergulch Back Country Zone is the recommended location. For information about winter backcountry camping or park fees, please phone 1-877-345-2257 from Monday to Friday.
