Snow Days – Winter Carnaval

In an effort to shake those winter blues and fully embrace the wonders of winter, Kouchibouguac National Park is hosting its first ever Snow Days. This winter carnival will take place on February 11, 14, 15.

The Pijeboogwek shelter will serve as the hub and meeting point for all activities.

Tuesday, February 11

6:30 pm: Forests in Focus: A panel discussion on the state of the Wabanaki-Acadian forest in and around Kouchibouguac National Park

Join us for this panel discussion organized by Kouchibouguac National Park (KNP) and the New Brunswick chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS-NB). How are our forests doing? What challenges are they facing? What are the possible solutions? How can I better manage my own private woodlot?

David Mazerolle, Ecosystem Scientist at Kouchibouguac National Park, and Roberta Clowater, Executive Director of CPAWS-NB, will address the subject and answer your questions. Daniel Gallant, Ecologist at Kouchibouguac National Park, will be the moderator. Bilingual hybrid event with simultaneous translation available.

Virtual or face-to-face participation in the Visitor Information Center Theater. In-person participants are invited to arrive early to discover our new birch bark canoe exhibit, as well as our permanent exhibits.

Valentine's Day in the snow

This Valentine's Day, enjoy our rustic, wood-heated shelters, open at all times, even in the evening. Put on your skis or snowshoes and set off under a full moon or by headlamp to one of our 4 rustic shelters with your meal in hand - the perfect evening for lovers or friends.

Saturday, February 15

10 am: Cross-country skiing friendly relay race

Friendly relay race with three different circuits for three age groups. Presented by Ski Codiac cross country ski club.

11 am: Guided snowshoe nature outing: discover lichens and medicinal plants

Two for one: Come discover the medicinal and edible plants available in winter AND lichens, those pioneer species that live in abundance among the tall trees, kings of our forests. Presented by Mi'gmawe'l Tplu'taqnn Incorporated. In English.

11 am: Food truck (until 3 pm or while supplies last)

Alma Pizza will be on site with their mobile pizza oven. Come grab a slice!

12 pm: Music around the fire and appearance by Parka

La Société Culturelle Kent Nord presents musician Gaston Guimond. Come and enjoy your lunch to the sound of music and dance with our friendly mascot Parka.

1 pm: Workshop: Initiation to dog harness sports

By registration only: Come and learn the basics of dog harness sports. A new activity for you and your furry friend to discover. Presented by Moncton Dog Runners.

2 pm: Demonstration of winter dog harness sports

Demonstration of winter driving sports such as sledding and skijoring. Presented by Moncton Dog Runners.

2 pm: Mi'gmaw storytelling around the fire

Come warm up around the fire and take a trip back in time, filled with fascinating stories and information about the Mi'gmaq presence in Kouchibouguac National Park. Presented by Mi'gmawe'l Tplu'taqnn Incorporated. In English.

2:30 pm: Open trail for dog harness sports

Enjoy this tempory trail along the parkway, groomed especially for winter dog harness sports. Dogs in harness and on leash only. Presented by Moncton Dog Runers.

3 pm: Name that tree: A walk in the woods with a Forest Technician

Join us as we explore the park with Crystal Casey from the Maritime College of Forest Technology and learn to identify several of our native tree species and learn about their importance in our ecosystems.

7 pm: Stargazing with the Royal Astronomy Society of Canada

Join the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada members sharing the winter skies and constellations. Opportunities to look at Orion, Jupiter, and the North star.
