Only wildfires of note will be listed. A wildfire of note is a fire that is highly visible or posing a threat to public safety.

Wildfire 2025-YO-02 (Mount Field Wildfire)

Wildfire Update - August 3, 11 am

Status:

Under Control. This means that suppression efforts have ensured that the fire will not spread beyond its current perimeter.

There is currently no threat to public safety or infrastructure.

Details:

Two initial attack fire crews and one helicopter worked through the day yesterday (August 2). The fire is now under control. A fire crew will continue to put out any hot spots. A helicopter may be seen in the area over the next few days, until the fire is fully extinguished.

This will be the last wildfire update for this wildfire.

Wildfire Update - August 2, 11 am

Status:

Being Held. This means that the wildfire is not likely to spread under the current conditions with the resources available.

There is currently no threat to public safety or infrastructure.

Details:

Last night (August 1), there were patchy and isolated showers in the region. The fire crews noted about 20 minutes of heavy rain while on the fireline in the early evening. This rain further reduced fire activity. The fire remains at 1.5 hectares and is now classified as being held.

Today (August 2), two initial attack fire crews and one helicopter will continue working to extinguish the fire.

Cooler temperatures and rain are currently forecasted for this evening and Sunday. If this materializes it will help to extinguish the fire.

The wildfire is visible from the community of Field and the Trans-Canada Highway. The lightning-caused wildfire was reported at 8:30 pm on Wednesday, July 30.

There are currently no area closures in effect for this wildfire.

We will start sharing updates once a day unless the situation significantly changes, and we will provide an update before then. The next update will be August 3, at 11 am.

Wildfire Update - August 1, 6 pm

Status:

Out of Control. This means that the wildfire is actively burning, has not been contained and is expected to spread.

There is currently no threat to public safety or infrastructure.

Details:

As of this afternoon (August 1), the Mount Field Wildfire remains at 1.5 hectares and the fire behaviour remains low. Two initial attack crews and two helicopters have been making good progress on the fire and are working to secure the perimeter. Cooler temperatures and rain are currently forecasted for this evening and into the weekend. If this materializes it will help to extinguish the fire.

The wildfire is visible from the community of Field and the Trans-Canada Highway. The lightning-caused wildfire was reported at 8:30 pm on Wednesday, July 30.

As of 6 pm today (August 1), the area closure affecting the Burgess Pass trail and Wapta Highline trail has been lifted. For an up-to-date list of area closures, visit: parks.canada.ca/yoho-bulletins.

Out of Control. This means that the wildfire is actively burning, has not been contained and is expected to spread.

There is currently no threat to public safety or infrastructure.

Details:

Today (August 1), two initial attack fire crews and two helicopters will continue working on extinguishing the Mount Field Wildfire.

The fire size remains 1.5 hectares. While the weather is supposed to stay warm through most of the day, the fire intensity is expected to stay relatively low. Cooler temperatures and rain are currently forecasted for this evening and into the weekend. If this materializes it will help to extinguish the fire.

The wildfire is visible from the community of Field and the Trans-Canada Highway. The lightning-caused wildfire was reported at 8:30 pm on Wednesday, July 30.

Wildfire Update - July 31, 6 pm

Status:

Out of Control. This means that the wildfire is actively burning, has not been contained and is expected to spread.

There is currently no threat to public safety or infrastructure.

Details:

Today (July 31), two initial attack fire crews and two helicopters have been actioning the Mount Field Wildfire.

The fire size has been updated to 1.5 hectares (down from the original estimate of 2 hectares). At this time, fire activity throughout the day has remained low to the ground, burning surface fuels.

The wildfire remains visible from the community of Field and the Trans-Canada Highway. The lightning-caused wildfire was reported at 8:30 pm on Wednesday, July 30.

Wildfire Update - July 31, 11 am

Out of Control. This means that the wildfire is actively burning, has not been contained, and is expected to spread.

There is currently no threat to public safety or infrastructure.

Details:

On Wednesday, July 30 at 8:30 pm, Parks Canada received reports of a lightning-caused wildfire on Mount Field, visible from the town of Field and the Trans-Canada Highway. The fire is estimated at 2 hectares and burning in steep terrain. There is no immediate threat to the public or infrastructure. The fire does not appear to have grown overnight, and Parks Canada initial attack crews will continue response efforts today.

Trail closures are being put in place for the Burgess Pass trail that will affect the Burgess Shale guided hikes. For an up-to-date list of area closures, visit: parks.canada.ca/yoho-bulletins.
