Bird watching

Fort Walsh National Historic Site

Fort Walsh National Historic Site is a wild emerald within Saskatchewan. Lodge pole pine forests tower above patches of open grasses throughout the rolling hills. This grassland oasis, with its lovely Battle Creek, attracts a great variety of species for birders to enjoy.

Many viewpoints, marked and unmarked trails throughout this transition landscape allow for many opportunities to see and photograph the treasures of the area including robins, woodpeckers and juncos. Bluebirds and swallows are just a few that add some lovely colour to the blue skies. Raptors such as hawks and eagles soar the updrafts hunting for their next meal.
