La route bleue (french only) is a first-rate ecotourism experience recognized by the Ministère de l’Éducation as a national network. By improving and facilitating access to bodies of water, La route bleue has become a standard for paddling routes in Quebec! 

With over 230 km of water routes now accessible in Montérégie, everyone can discover these natural and cultural gems that deserve to be protected, enhanced and rediscovered. Whether by canoe, kayak or paddleboard, you can safely explore certified, marked waterways. Interactive maps and a variety of planning tools are available online to help you prepare for your day on the water.

Good news! This summer, discover one of Montérégie’s routes along the Chambly Canal National Historic Site (french only)!

In under three hours, you will paddle calm waters, take in the stunning landscapes of this historic canal, observe local wildlife, and immerse yourself in the region’s rich history.

Access to La route bleue – Chambly Canal

Start and end point: Pavillon Jeunesse Yvan-Viens : 131 Rue Jean-Talon, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC J2W 1N7

Distance: 8 km round trip on calm water

Estimated duration: 2 to 4 hours

To practice paddle sports on the Chambly Canal, you need a seasonal boat sticker. In addition, a lockage permit is required to pass through the locks with your canoe or kayak. To prepare for your water outing, consult the Paddle sports web page.
