To travel on the Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Canal is to travel a waterway filled with 150 years of history. Used for commercial purposes from its inauguration in 1843, the canal quickly became part of the Montreal-Ottawa-Kingston inland waterway.

The canal had a decisive impact on commercial and tourism development in the area, which grew considerably during the second half of the 19th century. Thousands of passengers travelled along the canal on steamships. Since 1963, it has been used exclusively by recreational boaters.

Laid out on an exceptional site, the Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Canal has become a very popular destination. Visitors can stroll along the boardwalk that borders the waterway, explore historic ruins, watch the lock in operation or enjoy a family picnic in the green spaces.
