Set on the banks of the Grand River - a Canadian Heritage River – the Waterloo Pioneer Memorial Tower is a landmark that can be seen for kilometers. Built of random-coursed fieldstone, its Swiss-style copper roof and Conestoga wagon weather vane are proud reminders of the Germanic heritage of the pioneer community that settled the Waterloo region.

At the time of its construction in 1926, the Tower made an important statement against the anti-German sentiments lingering after the First World War. It remains an important piece of the cultural heritage of the Waterloo region.
