Your journey to the Pingo Canadian Landmark starts with a trip through the community of Inuvik, Northwest Territories. Inuvik is the regional hub of the western Arctic.

At the Parks Canada office in Inuvik, visitors can:

• take part in an orientation session; and
• buy souvenirs and official merchandise including adorable stuffed animals and coffee.

To reach the Pingo Canadian Landmark drive 138 kilometres (about 86 miles) on the Inuvik Tuktoyaktuk Highway. You will pass the last trees of the treeline while heading north toward the Arctic Ocean community of Tuktoyaktuk.

From the highway you will see the pingos emerging from the relatively flat tundra that surrounds them. You will see why they are the ideal traditional lookout for the Inuvialuit that call this area home.

Just before entering the community, plan to stop at the pingo pullout and day use area where you can find information about the history of the Pingo Canadian Landmark and access seasonal visitor facilities.
