Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site

Online workshops

We can bring the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site to your classroom or community group, for free! We offer the following workshops between March and November. They can be delivered in person in Cape Breton, and through teleconference anywhere in Canada and beyond!

Book your online workshop with us

In order to continue our mission to pass on our passion for history and nature, our team offers online workshops on a wide range of topics, including archaeology, coastal erosion, and more.

Although the presentations are designed with certain audiences in mind, all educators and learners, in classrooms, homeschools, and informal educational settings, are welcome to participate.

Artifacts and The Stories They Tell

The Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site is a treasure trove for archaeologists. Each object left behind by the former inhabitants helps us learn more about what life was like in Louisbourg nearly 300 years ago. Join Parks Canada experts for a special tour of the Fortress of Louisbourg’s National Historic Site’s archaeology collection.

This workshop is also available through École en Réseau. Visit their website to find out more and explore online workshops offered by other national parks and national historic sites!

Psst - Contact us to book your very own in-person tour of the archaeological collection. If you are planning a field trip to the Fortress of Louisbourg, consider adding some special archaeology-themed activities to your schedule!

Careers in Cultural Resource Management

This workshop is specially designed for high school students who are exploring career options. Experts in cultural resources management from the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site chat with students about jobs in the field of historical research, archaeology and more. From the education requirements to the best parts of the job, the experts will help students better understand this interesting field.

This program is available virtually or can be offered in-person within Cape Breton.

(Re)Building Better

Climate change and coastal erosion has had a big impact on the shorelines of Atlantic Canada these last few years, including in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Parks Canada experts tell you more about what happened, what we’re doing to fix it, and what you can do to help fight coastal erosion in your own community!

This program is available virtually or can be offered in-person within Cape Breton. While it is best suited for students in junior high and high school, it can be adapted to suit the needs of your group.
