North Magazine: Garrison, Naval, and Artillery Rooms
The North Magazine is the most modern venue within the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. This converted gunpowder magazine has been carefully renovated with three distinct rooms and is perfect for intimate dinners, receptions, meetings and breakout sessions.
All three rooms can be combined including the lobby area:
- The largest room in the North Magazine, the Garrison Room, can be set up in a variety of ways to accommodate your event.
- The building’s lobby adjacent to the Garrison Room offers an additional space perfect for networking or standing reception.
- The Naval Room features a large boardroom table that seats 12, perfect for meetings and/or dinners.
- The Artillery Room is the smallest room accommodating 6 for an intimate dinner.

North Front Casemates
Host an intimate wedding ceremony, small seated dinners, large receptions, or a combination of all of these in the North Front Casemates. Four adjoining historic barracks rooms featuring in-floor lighting, vaulted ceilings, and historic ambiance provide an event space that you can truly make your own.
The room set up most commonly used for a wedding ceremony, dinner and reception includes the following:
- Casemate #26 – seated or stand up reception style dinner
- Casemate #27 – bar and dancing
- Casemate #28 – food stations or catering preparation
- Casemate #29 – wedding ceremony

Soldiers’ Library and Coffee Bar
The Soldiers’ Library is a historic and intimate space, while the Coffee Bar is an open room with an equipped bar suitable for a pre-dinner reception or a small dance floor. Both rooms are located on the lower level of the historic Cavalier Building and feature original hardwood floors, historic pictures, antique tables and chairs.

The Soldiers’ Library is perfect for seated dinners for up to 36 people. The adjoining Coffee Bar is ideal for slightly larger receptions. Both rooms have a combined standing room for 72 people. |
