    June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day. A time to honour the cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada. Taking place on summer solstice, the longest day of the year, it marks a time of renewal, connection and celebration and it holds a deep spiritual and cultural significance for many Indigenous Peoples.

    Join us on June 21 to appreciate, and acknowledge the past and present contributions of Indigenous Peoples to this treasured place we call Bar U Ranch.

    Visit a demonstration Stoney Nakoda teepee encampment, join the sharing circle and blessing by Terry Daniels of the Bearspaw Stoney Nakoda First Nation.

    Free admission for all! Celebrate Canada’s birthday at Canada’s ranch. Find the perfect spot for a picnic, attend the flag raising, stroll along the Pekisko Creek Trail, visit with our interpreters and say hello to the ranch’s livestock.

    Experience agritourism in Alberta! Come enjoy free admission to the Bar U Ranch National Historic site during Alberta Open Farm Days: a collaborative, province-wide event providing opportunities to experience farm life and understand where some of our food comes from in the province. Meet farmers, and come taste local foods direct from the producer.

    While here, don’t miss out on our haying demonstration, hearing from our interpreters, and checking out the Pekisko Creek Western Market.

    Time-honoured and traditional skills of ranching come to our outdoor arena! Cheer on your favourite teams of working cowboys as they compete for Bar U buckles and bragging rights.

    Events include horse racing, team sorting, and branding and doctoring events. The day is not complete without checking out the vendors at the Pekisko Creek Western Market.

    Discover how we’re keeping horsepower history alive! Watch drivers show off their traditional skills guiding heavy horse teams through skill-testing maneuvers. This year features two competition divisions, novice (first time competitors) and professional.
