Imnairvik (Sheep Creek Base Camp)
Your journey to Imnairvik (Sheep Creek Base Camp) begins in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, the largest community north of the Arctic Circle in western Canada. Following your orientation and safety briefing with Parks Canada staff, board a Twin Otter bush plane and enjoy the scenic flight over the Mackenzie Delta and British Mountains into Ivvavik National Park.
Cozy accommodations, hot showers, enriching stories told by Inuvialuit cultural hosts, and the chance to see a variety of wildlife combine to make your experience at Imnairvik (Sheep Creek Base Camp) truly unique.
- Accommodation inside electrified bear fence,
- a prospector tent outfitted with bunk beds or a queen, bed sheets, pillows
- Use of full kitchen; fridge, freezer, pots, pans, stove, oven, toaster, cutlery. With the expectation all visitors keep workspaces and common areas clean.

Seven Day Independent Visitor Trip Description
Trip dates are typically end of June, early July. Flights from and back to Inuvik are reserved and the cost shared by all participants and will depend on the number of travelers participating in the flight.

The independent Imnairvik (Sheep Creek Base Camp) trip requires a level of self-sufficiency. This trip is designed to give you both structure and independence. Parks Canada will not be guiding hikes; visitors leave the bear fence and hike at their own risk. Parks Canada staff are on-site to maintain camp and provide planning advice for day hikes or multi-day excursions into the backcountry. A cultural host will be available to share Inuvialuit knowledge and context, enriching your time on the land.
Please note, you will attend a mandatory orientation and safety briefing with Parks Canada staff at 3:00 p.m. the day before departure.
2026 Dates and fees
The Imnairvik (Sheep Creek Base Camp) Independent Visitor trip will be held June 20 – 26, 2026. If enough interest, a second trip may be scheduled for June 26 – July 2, 2026.

How do I reserve my spot on the Independent Imnairvik (Sheep Creek Base Camp) Trip?
Once reservations open, spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Completed registration forms are to be returned to infoinuvik-inuvikinfo@pc.gc.ca. Registration forms received after the trip has reached capacity, will be placed on the waitlist. Our Visitor Experience team communicates all Imnairvik Trip updates through an email contact list, including when reservations open. Are commercial operators running in Ivvavik National Park this summer?
Parks Canada will continue to accept and review permit applications from commercial guides/outfitters to operate in Ivvavik National Park this summer.
What if I decide to cancel an existing Imnairvik (Sheep Creek Base Camp) booking?
If a reservation is cancelled by the traveler, the following policy and guidelines apply to the fees paid directly to Parks Canada only:
The cost of your flight paid to Aklak Air is subject to Aklak Air’s refund policy.
We recommend obtaining travel insurance in case of any unforeseen circumstances.
