Your safety when visiting

Safety during the COVID-19 pandemic

  • The health and safety of visitors and employees is of utmost importance to the Government of Canada. Parks Canada is asking visitors to plan ahead, to be careful, to use its sites with caution and to respect local, provincial or territorial travel restrictions and requirements, as well as the instructions of public health experts, in order to minimize risks of the transmission of COVID-19 and assure everyone’s safety.
  • Visitors should follow the advice of public health experts, including necessary hygiene practices and physical distancing restrictions.
  • Parks Canada puts in place various measures to ensure health and safety, particularly in terms of maintenance procedures for service buildings.
  • Security is a shared responsibility. Bring your own hygiene supplies (hand sanitizer, wipes, table cloth, etc).
  • Practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands frequently and avoiding touching your face. Use hand sanitizer when in public spaces where you must touch surfaces.
  • Wearing a mask is mandatory inside buildings. Scarves, neck warmers and balaclavas cannot replace the mask.
  • Kitchen shelters have restricted capacity. Respect the capacity mentionned on every building.
  • Respect your family bubble and practice physical distancing by keeping a healthy space between you and others.
  • Abide by all travel advisories.

Other safety tips

  • If you visit the islands, you will be responsible for your own safety. Locate the nearest emergency shelter and bring an effective means of communication. In the event of an incident or emergency, call 1-888-762-1422 (available 24/7). Note that cellular network could be limited or even non-existent at some places and rescue could be considerably delayed.
  • Anyone participating in recreational activities should be extra cautious to avoid injury and/or getting lost to help minimize the demands placed on search and rescue teams and on the health care system.
  • Visit the website for information on the distance and difficulty of the trails before leaving in order to choose a trail that is appropriate for your level.
  • Security is a shared responsibility. There are no restaurants, canteens or drinking water available on the island. You must bring enough water and food.
  • Leave no trace when you visit outdoor and indoor spaces. Dispose of waste by using appropriate garbage containers when you get back on the coast.
