Embark on the iNaturalist experience!

Forillon National Park

iNaturalist is like having a huge guide for identifying plant and animal species in your pocket, but in mobile format! All you have to do is download the free application on your smartphone.

Also, take part in the iNaturalist – Forillon National Park project by uploading your observations to the platform. By contributing to improving biodiversity knowledge, you will ensure that you keep a memory of your visit while providing valuable information that will be useful to future visitors and will last for many years.

At Forillon, your observations can contribute to:

  • long-term scientific monitoring of common species;
  • long-term scientific monitoring of species at risk;
  • documenting the park’s biodiversity;
  • and even to the conduct of environmental impact assessments.

iNaturalist is an excellent platform to assist in the proactive management of Forillon National Park.

Where can I download the application?

Visit https://inaturalist.ca/ or download the iNaturalist application from your mobile app provider.

Do I need to be familiar with the species already to participate in iNaturalist?

You do not have to be an expert to participate in iNaturalist. The application helps you identify the species you encounter.

Many observers and identifiers are present on the application to validate and provide details about the different plant and animal species that are shared.

How does iNaturalist contribute to science?

All observations made at a Forillon National Park GPS point are uploaded to the iNaturalist-Forillon National Park project, which is part of Parks Canada’s larger iNaturalist project. The data then become available to the scientific community... and to the public!
