Nááts’įhch’oh National Park Reserve conserves nearly 5000 km2 of subarctic cordillera. Its majestic mountains and challenging rivers inspire awe and adventure. As the original stewards, travellers, and land users of the Shúhta (Central Mackenzie Mountains), the Sahtu Dene and Métis people have especially deep connections with this rich cultural landscape. The natural and cultural heritage of Nááts’įhch’oh National Park Reserve make it unique in Canada – a treasure to protect, appreciate, and share for many years to come.

Mining exploration activity in this area prior to the park’s establishment resulted in waste such as fuel barrels, metal hardware, discarded food cans, and glass being left behind where camps were once located. Parks Canada has been working to clear these areas of debris, focusing especially on removing rusty barrels of aviation fuel before they begin to leak. If you find an old waste site, please document it with photographs and GPS coordinates and contact the park office.
