Warning – High Water

Due to high potential for dangerous flood conditions, navigable waters within Nááts'įhch'oh National Park Reserve were closed to visitors on June 30, 2023. The closure ended on July 3, 2023.

WHAT:

A warning for high water levels is in place.

WHERE:

All waterways in Nááts'įhch'oh National Park Reserve.

WHY:

A recent significant rainfall event has caused water levels in the South Nahanni watershed to spike well above normal water levels. High water conditions may escalate river-based hazards. River conditions may change rapidly, hydraulics may be present in atypical places, there may be more trees lodged in the water and along the shores than usual, and increased river velocity and flow may impact navigation and self-rescue.

WHEN:

Immediately and until water levels return to a normal range for this time of year. Parks Canada will continue monitoring water levels closely.
