Access Closures - Terra Nova National Park

Issued: August 13, 2025

Ends: September 15, 2025

Parks Canada would like to advise visitors and the public of temporary access closures in Terra Nova National Park, effective Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

While Malady Head Campground, Newman Sound Campground, all Day Use Areas, and the Visitor Centre remain open, the ongoing wildfire situation in Newfoundland and Labrador, combined with the Extreme Fire Danger rating within the park, necessitates the temporary restriction of all backcountry travel and recreational activities.

These restrictions apply to all backcountry campsites – including coastal wharves – and the following trails and areas:

  • Malady Head Trail
  • Goowiddy Path
  • Outport Trail
  • Ochre Hill Trail
  • Sandy Pond Trail
  • Dunphy’s Pond Trail
  • Southwest Arm Backcountry Campsites
  • Buckley’s Cove Backcountry Campsite
  • Minchin’s Cove Backcountry Campsites
  • South Broad Cove Backcountry Campsites
  • Dunphy’s Pond Backcountry Campsites
  • Dunphy’s Island and Backcountry Campsites
  • Beachy Pond Backcountry Campsites
  • Park Harbour Wharf
  • Arnold’s Pond Fishing Trail
  • Kelly’s Pond Fishing Trail
  • Davey Ann’s Pond Fishing Trail
  • Chatman’s Pond Fishing Trail
  • Platter’s Beach

Visitors are further reminded that a full fire ban remains in effect in Terra Nova National Park, in support of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador’s province-wide ban.

Visitor and public safety is Parks Canada’s first priority, and we appreciate the public’s care and cooperation in supporting these important visitor safety-focused closures. Updates will be provided as information changes.
