WHAT:

Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, of the Canada National Parks Act, the following activity is restricted or prohibited by order of the Superintendent:

WHERE:

The Mount Stephen fossil beds and surrounding area as shown in red on the map are closed to the public under Section 7(4) of the National Parks General Regulations. Access to this area is restricted to people with a valid permit or people accompanied by an authorized Burgess Shale guide.

WHY:

Protection of Burgess Shale fossils.

PENALTY:

Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $100,000.
